Cory Dirksen, who was GM in 2006, the first season of the ULB, and again in 2007, returned for his second stint with the WhiteWings in 2009 and is back in the same position in 2010.
Actually, Dirksen originally began his GM duties with the Harlingen-based Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in 2005 and was responsible for putting the business and promotional operation together. In starting the operation from scratch, he took the team from creation to opening day in just over five months.
In his second year as General Manager of the WhiteWings, Dirksen helped put together a team that won the first half league title in 2007.
Dirksen was promoted to the league's director of group sales in 2008, leaving that position to enter the private sector, citing moral differences with the then-ownership.
Dirksen received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration at Eureka College, with minors in Physical Education and Political Science. He received his Master of Science Degree in 2002 in Sports Management at Western Illinois University.
At Eureka, he competed in varsity golf and was assistant coach for men's and women's swimming.
Prior to his management duties in the ULB, Dirksen spent three years as director of Sales and Scouting for the Rockford River Hawks in the Frontier League, helping to start the franchise from the ground up and culminating in a Frontier League Championship in 2004.
As a result of his work with the RiverHawks, Cory moved on to the position of General Manager of the Windy City Thunder Bolts, also in the Frontier League. |
